Homelessness Support

At the Rural Outreach & Support Service, we understand that homelessness is a complex issue that requires a compassionate, comprehensive, and individualized approach. Our Homelessness Support service is designed to provide immediate assistance to individuals and families in the Inverell, Glen Innes, Tenterfield, and Warialda areas who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

Our Approach

Our approach is person-centred, collaborative, and connected. We strive to create a safe, trauma-informed environment conducive to the emotional and physical well-being of our clients. We believe in empowering our clients to make active decisions about their lives and encourage them to seek alternatives and options.

Our Services

Our services are wide-ranging and tailored to the unique needs of each client. They include:

  • Access to Information and Resources: We provide up-to-date information and resources on legal, welfare, medical, educational, and housing rights. Our team is well-versed in the various community and welfare agencies available and can introduce clients to these resources.

  • Advocacy: We advocate on behalf of our clients, ensuring they have access to applicable resources and services. We liaise with and coordinate the services of Health, Department of Communities and Justice, Legal, Housing, and Community agencies.

  • Support and Advice: Our team provides support and advice to help clients re-establish themselves in the community. We also offer continuing aid to clients who have sought assistance from our service.

  • Life Skills Workshops: We conduct training courses and workshops to help our clients develop essential life skills. These workshops cover a wide range of topics, from financial management to job searching.

  • Emergency Support: In times of crisis, we provide immediate support and assistance to our clients. This includes access to emergency accommodation and food supplies.
